Water interruption causing havoc in Krugersdorp

Residents of Krugersdorp is furious because of the latest spade of water interruptions affecting

Krugersdorp West, Krugersdorp North, Burgershoop. Appel Park, Munsieville, Quellerie Park and Dan Pienaarville. Residents made use of social media sites to show their frustration as they didn’t received prior notification of this interruption and to prepare for it as it is entering its fourth day.

According to a statement on the Mogale City Local Municipality website, the water supply was suspended after a burst water pipe damaged the mainline that supplies local reservoirs. The Municipality mentioned that their technicians and engineers are working around the clock to repair the pipe and restore normal water by the end of the day.

The Municipality Watchdog is concerned that residents of the affected areas was not informed prior to this interruptions and that the Mogale City Local Municipality did not make any water tankers available to assist residents in the affected areas.

Basic Water is a necessity and everybody’s human right as set out in Section 27 in the constitution of the Republic of South Afica: the rights to food, water, health care and social assistance, which the state must progressively realise within the limits of its resources. What happened to the (Batho Pele – caring, empathy, respect, recognition, value, reward, compassion and consultation) principals, that was adopted by Local and Provincial Government.
